Osram Sylvania is light. As one of the leading lighting manufacturers, it was important to their brand identity that their New England headquarters fully represented their company, from top to bottom. Although they are made up of a variety of different departments, including research and development labs, marketing, human resources, a complete customer center, and more, each takes pride in their long lasting reputation. They strive off of their belief that their ideas can make a difference in every person's life and that their products reflect a commitment to making the world more comfortable, more productive and more imaginative.
My design team as Sasaki Associates dug deep to find the perfect lighting concept for the space. We decided on "light leak." Breaking out from a cracked solid core, the light emanates from the center in the form of a "ray." These spaces become the collaborative zones, including think tanks, open collaborate spaces, and pantries. All of the solid program remains at the core, including conference spaces, enclosed offices, and support spaces, while the remainder leaves room for open office and lab spaces.
