A Treehouse Grows In Brooklyn | Spring 2014
This the final submission for ArchTriumph’s Architectural Treehouse Competition.
APPROACH:
Who says that a tree house has to be in the woods? Those who live in a house surrounded by nature already benefit from what the environment has to offer. But what about in a city? Where can city dwellers find the restorative qualities of nature when sky scrapers and the urban environment have taken over?
We imagine the clients to be a middle class New York City couple who recently moved from a rural community to Williamsburg, Brooklyn. With their new jobs they are unable to make it out of the city often. Although they enjoy the energy of city-life, they miss the pure qualities that nature provides such as clean fresh air, the sounds of birds chirping and the running creek, and the beautiful starry night sky that is now drowned out by the bright city lights.
CONCEPT:
This treehouse will act as an internal oasis that offers a positive transformation of elements that are typically negative in the city environment. The treehouse negates these air quality, sound, and light pollution issues, and reflects what nature would actually do. It will not only give them a small place to recharge and relax, but also a space to feel a reconnection with nature.
